I'm not really familiar with contemporary novels; I never have been. It's not like I've been avoiding contemporary novels, they've just never fallen into my hands like other genres do. It wasn't until recently that I realized how singular my tastes in books have become (i.e. straight white leads that tell the same story). Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with reading these stories because I nonetheless enjoy them despite their faults. I do think it is wrong to flat out push aside a story from a different view point than what one normally reads. Because of this I've decided to go on a reading mission of finding new diverse voices. Not only is it so important to give these stories and writers the attention they deserve, it also helps us the readers see things in a way we may not have understood.
My first read in my new journey in finding new voices is with Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda. I am not loving it as much as I heard other people. In fact, I think it is quite an average read, but I what I am enjoying is the interaction with Simon and Blue. I'm about halfway done with it and it's going a bit slow but I'm going to power through it.
Once I'm done with Simon, I'm debating on whether I should go onto Turtles All the Way Down or the Princess Diaries. I think I want to go on to something a little easier and just for fun so the Princess Diaries sounds really nice right now.
If you have any recommendations on what I should read next just leave a comment.
I'll see you tomorrow!
