I'm guilty. I'm a bloody cheater. I said I would post at least once a day and yesterday's post completely over my head. Thinking back I knew that long two day streak wouldn't last. Note to self: don't promise things you know you won't do.
As for reading I haven't made much progress on Simon. I did have a dream about the ending consisting of a cartoon versions of the characters acting out some sort of ending. In my dream, Simon confesses to Abby what Martin is making him do. She gets so angry that she dates Martin and bullies Simon with him. I'm pretty sure that's not how it's going to go but I thought it was pretty funny how dramatic I made the ending.
I'm going to dedicate the rest of the weekend to powering through the rest of the book. We'll see how that goes.

Reading Update #1
I'm not really familiar with contemporary novels; I never have been. It's not like I've been avoiding contemporary novels, they've just never fallen into my hands like other genres do. It wasn't until recently that I realized how singular my tastes in books have become (i.e. straight white leads that tell the same story). Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with reading these stories because I nonetheless enjoy them despite their faults. I do think it is wrong to flat out push aside a story from a different view point than what one normally reads. Because of this I've decided to go on a reading mission of finding new diverse voices. Not only is it so important to give these stories and writers the attention they deserve, it also helps us the readers see things in a way we may not have understood.
My first read in my new journey in finding new voices is with Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda. I am not loving it as much as I heard other people. In fact, I think it is quite an average read, but I what I am enjoying is the interaction with Simon and Blue. I'm about halfway done with it and it's going a bit slow but I'm going to power through it.
Once I'm done with Simon, I'm debating on whether I should go onto Turtles All the Way Down or the Princess Diaries. I think I want to go on to something a little easier and just for fun so the Princess Diaries sounds really nice right now.
If you have any recommendations on what I should read next just leave a comment.
I'll see you tomorrow!

Bloggity Blog!
Hello world! I'm Mel, and if you couldn't tell already, I love books. Unlike most book enthusiasts, I despise the time it takes to read one book. My goal for the end of the year was to read at least 40 books, which in retrospect is a bit hard considering my pattern of reading. I am, however, very competitive and I will do whatever it takes to meet that number even if it means creating a blog solely with the purpose of keeping up with my reading goal.
Why did start this blog?
As I mentioned before I love books and want to keep up with my reading goal. I just don't have anyone to talk about this goal with. My ultimate goal is to find people who enjoy books as much as I do!
What types of books do you read?
I will read just about anything. As of lately, I've really been enjoying Chicano literature. I do take all recommendations, though. If you think I'll enjoy it, you should tell me about it.
Expectations
As I try to keep up with my ever growing TBR (To Be Read) list, I will attempt to post once a day with reading updates, reviews, and anything I feel like writing.
Any closing statements?
Nope.
